Season 2 Episode 19: Putting Your Hoof Down

Synopsis:
When Fluttershy becomes tired of getting pushed around for too long, she decides to gets some assertiveness training from Iron Will, which causes her to transform her unsure ways.

My Personal thoughts:
This is a pretty good episode with lots of stuff to pick up in the background,like Pipsqueak running around in the background at some point,BonBon having Lyras cutie mark on her Bags and getting yet another voice, as well as Derpy with derped eyes (which was obvious,as Hasbro said they only changed this ONE SINGLE episode, so I dont even know why people even thought Derpy would change in future episodes as well to begin with)
I heard quite some people disliking the episode, and I can kinda understand that. Just as in Mysterious Mare-Do-Well something about Merriwether Williams' style of writing seems off from the rest of the episodes. In MMDW it was mainly that suddenly there were accidents all over town, and here we suddenly have jerks all over town. Now I can see a reason why there might be more jerks this time around,which is due to Iron Will giving his assertiveness seminars and therefore more ponies are trying to be more assertive and therefore turn into jerks. But even before Iron Will appears we have jerks everywhere. Its really sad that people take this as a reason to bash the entire episode. The animation was awesome as always,like the 2.5D shot of Fluttershy near the end or the pony's faces, which seem to improve every episode. And also there were tons of cool moments and bits like Iron Will's wrestling/Mr. T referrences, Bugs Bunny referrences, Rarity charming the stereotypical nerd pony, Derpy getting denied of the asparagus, Fluttershy being a monster, etc.
Also I heard people saying Fluttershy went evil way too quickly,but I dont really see how they could make her turn evil any slower given their time they have on an episode, it cant go over 22 minutes,why do people forget that all the time?
Overall,I think its a pretty solid episode and doesnt really deserve the dislikes it has gotten by some people. I also start to think that some people are still mad about MMDW and therefore are now going to hate everything Merriweather Williams does, which makes hardly any sense.

I overall agree with your post (which is very rich on information! Plus one from me :) ).

I think Hasbro should have made it clearer from begin with that it was only this one episode. Then again, I was a little annoyed myself that they changed Derpy to begin with. Giving the community character an episode(which everpony absolutely loved and adored) and then altering was a little annoying.

Then again, the show is made for smaller children to begin with, so I fully understand the reasoning behind it. THe community reaction was a given, in my oppinion, yet I find it a little bit of an overreaction.

One thing I am very pleased about is that Fluttershy FINALLY part of a MAJOR character development. It did annoy me at times that she was "such a doormat"

But overall, I loved the episode. One of my favourites this season :>
